Diagnosing Cardiac Function and Blood Flow
MetroSouth Medical Center offers diagnostic procedures to evaluate structure, function and blood flow:
- ECHO – Echocardiogram
Much more detailed than an X-ray, an echocardiogram uses sound waves to take pictures of the heart without any radiation exposure.
- TEE - Transesophogeal Echocardiography
If regular echocardiogram results are unclear, your physician may request the TEE. After numbing the throat, a scope is threaded down the throat allowing for a clearer, two-dimensional echocardiogram of the heart.
- Intravascular Ultrasound
This test is a combination of a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram) and cardiac catheterization. Through the use of sound waves, this test allows a technician to see inside coronary arteries.
